Landscape Architecture students from Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington present their visionary ideas for what the wider Porirua City Centre could look like in 30 years’ time.
This project explores a staged revitalisation of Te Manawa, transforming the CBD from a car-oriented retail precinct into a culturally grounded, multifunctional, densely populated, and ecologically valuable urban centre.
The designs are thoughtfully developed to honour the Māori heritage of Porirua, respond to environmental challenges, and create vibrant, pedestrian-friendly spaces that bring together residential, retail, and recreation zones.
Throughout their process, students have engaged with Mana Whenua, the Porirua Mayor and Elected Members, Council officers, and local community stakeholders.
Six different design responses are on display at Kai Tahi from 11-21 June.
All are welcome to come through and take a look.
